Travel
A Passport is the principal requirement for entry into the BVI.
However, in the case of a US or Canadian citizen, a Birth Certificate,
Citizenship Certificate or Voter Registration Card along with a picture
identification has been considered sufficient. However, with the changing
rules for entry into the US it is becoming mandatory to carry a passport. For charterers going "down island",
a valid Passport is mandatory. You are allowed to bring anything you
want into the country but if it is going to be consumed or remain in the
territory, they will want
to collect duty based on the purchase price. That would apply to food and
beverages or anything else that might get consumed. If you do decide
to bring food items it is always a good idea to bring along the purchase
receipt to establish the value for customs.
Cruising Permits & Other Fees
From May to November, the BVI charges a cruising tax of $.75
per day, per person and $2. per day, per person between December and April.
There is also an optional National Parks Trust permit which gives charter
guests access to day only mooring balls sites, throughout the BVI.
The cost of the permit is between $15.00 and $30.00 per charter, depending
upon the time of year. An optional VISAR donation of $1. per person
is requested by this voluntary organization.
